New Year is coming soon, and major publishers are just getting ready to release their significant projects, which usually come out in February. However, this does not mean that gamers will miss all of January, eating olivier and the remains of tangerines. Several large projects will nevertheless go out to smooth your New Year holidays. Among them, we selected the most interesting releases, which are really worth paying attention to, and now it's time to talk about them. Suddenly you are a fan of Japanese role-playing games or really love full-fledged projects for virtual reality. January clearly decided to attract attention with quality, not quantity.
Yakuza 7: Like a DragonNo one doubted that the cult Japanese mafia franchise would continue. The previous part sold very well, plus modern technologies make the virtual world more attractive, which positively affects the perception of the storyline. In addition, for the first time in many years, the scriptwriters decided to change the main character, who radically changed his attitude to the story. Yes, now fans of the series will play not for Kazum Kiryu, but for Itiban Kasuga, a mafia of low rank. He is trying to reach certain heights, and gamers will help him in this.
Of course, the developers do not tell the details of the storyline, because the plot has always been a key point in the games of this franchise. Any spoiler can ruin the passage, so the scriptwriters try to tell the minimum amount of interesting details. We only know that Itiban Kasuga made a small gang with his comrades, and now he plans to do a serious business in order to hit the jackpot. Naturally, in this kind of ventures absolutely always something goes wrong, causing a sea of adventure and misfortune on the head of the main characters. Can a new character cope with all this and leave the winner? We will find out soon.
The developers also decided to change the location - now the events of the storyline will develop in a huge area of Yokohama called Izinto. Gamers have not seen this location, so we are waiting for surprises, interesting places, new characters and other amazing discoveries. The authors of the project promise that this area is worked out and interesting as much as possible, so that gamers will be able to captivate themselves with side activities and explore the world for a rather long time. Actually, earlier the virtual world of the franchise has always been well developed, which means that developers can be trusted.
And, of course, the most important change in the seventh license plate can be considered a combat system that was altered literally from scratch. Now the player will have to take into account the tactical advantages of the location, actively use objects, take into account obstacles on the way to the enemy, and so on. Probably, this way the developers want to refresh the franchise, which begins to stagnate in one place. Let's hope that all these changes will benefit the project, and loyal fans at the time of release will rejoice and jump with happiness. Nevertheless, Japanese games can evoke such emotions.
Yakuza 7: Like a Dragon will be released on January 16 on the PS4.
Dragon Ball Z: KakarotThe Dragon Ball Z series boasts a huge army of ardent fans and a rather long history - the first manga on the Dragon Pearl was released back in 1984. Later, the story from the magazines was transferred to the cartoon, turning the story of martial arts into one of the most popular anime series in Asia. There were plenty of games on the franchise, but now the developers decided to go to a whole new level. They decided to abandon fighting games for the sake of storytelling and an interesting story. Of course, it could not do without Japanese motives - even the screenshots from the game show that it was made in the East.
It should be noted right away that the game Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, according to the developers, is the most detailed and interesting retelling of the story of Goku from the manga and the anime series Dragon Pearl Z in the entire history of the franchise. The scriptwriters wrote a rather extensive story that will tell the player about the events that were described in the original magazine, published more than thirty years ago. Moreover, during the passage you can get acquainted with absolutely all the bright characters, loyal friends and sworn enemies. In fact, this is a brief retelling of the whole story, only in the format of an integral game.
The storyline skillfully combines serious emotional scenes about the protagonist’s experiences, tragic moments, as well as jokes, humor and comic situations. For a Japanese project, this is a rarity - scriptwriters usually focus on one motive, while Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot boasts a rather multifaceted presentation of the storyline. If you are a fan of the series, you can verify the authenticity of the events, but for everyone else the game provides an opportunity to sit down and master the huge story of a cult character that has been developing since 1984.
In terms of gameplay, everything is also very cool, because the developers did not need to focus on the realistic behavior of the characters. Our main character can get a fish the size of a nine-story house from a lake with a small fishing rod, then jump and knock it out with his fist. You can also push off the ground and literally fly, fight huge enemies, strike with incredible power and stuff like that. Actually, no one doubted that the publisher in the person of Bandai Namco Entertainment would let out a bad role-playing game for such a popular franchise. Application for the best Japanese RPG of 2020.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will be released January 17 on the PS4, PC and Xbox One.
The Walking Dead: Saints & SinnersThere are practically no full-fledged VR projects on the modern video game market, since there are not very many owners of such devices, and developers simply don’t see the point of investing a lot of money in large releases. Fortunately, there are still studios that want to move in this direction and produce decent games for virtual reality. The first project of 2020, which can be safely advised to all owners of an interesting gadget, is the game The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, based on the series The Walking Dead. The developers decided to give you the opportunity to try this world in the first person.
Actually, with the plot, everything is pretty standard - you should not expect incredible drama from this series. The scriptwriters will again tell us a story about survival in a world that is literally crowded with zombies. The main character in all this needs to survive, look for resources and a place for an overnight stay, on which the plot almost ends. Of course, not all the details of the single player campaign were told to us, but you should not expect anything more interesting from the zombie apocalypse setting. Yes, and games for virtual reality are still not ready for serious stories and dramaturgy, while developers are investing in gameplay.
And in this The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners really pleased - the gameplay looks as exciting as possible. The player, like the characters of the series, must travel the virtual world, collect resources, study locations, look for interesting information and all that sort of thing. Naturally, this process is greatly complicated by zombies, which are literally everywhere. They are quite dangerous, so if the player is mistaken when moving, then there is every chance of dying. Just imagine - a crowd of monsters moving to you in the first person who really want to kill you.
If this were a regular PC game, then it would be safe to say that the project is quite straightforward - we have already seen dozens of games about zombies and survival. However, in virtual reality, the project feels completely different, because there is the effect of complete immersion. Fear is literally tangible, and enemies attack with a decent level of realism. Of course, the game is far from for the faint of heart, but if you are a big fan of horror movies and want to raise the level of immersion, then you should definitely pay attention to The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners. There is a feeling that this will be the scariest game on the VR video game market.
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners will be released on January 23 on PC.
Journey to the Savage PlanetThe authors of Journey to the Savage Planet talked quite a lot about their project long before the release, because the main advantage of the project is in gameplay, and it cannot be "spoiled". The creators of the space action along with the first trailer said that they do not plan to focus on the storyline, since any films or TV shows do better with the story than any game. They are much more interested in investing resources in game mechanics, so that after completing this project other games seem boring and uninteresting. It is worth saying that they coped with the task quite well.
True, the storyline is still there - we are the pilot of a private company that deals with space travel. And doing its job pretty badly, to be honest. Many pilots simply crash during their travels, but we are more lucky - the main character is on a rather strange planet, which he needs to study in order to understand whether people can live here. To do this, you need to study the surroundings, take measurements of flora and fauna, gradually move deeper into the locations. Actually, this is the gameplay, but let's not forget that there are a lot of other living creatures on the planet that we may not be happy with.
And this is not surprising - who will be glad to see some person in a spacesuit who walks and pokes his equipment into the leaves and bushes. We will need to fight with such opponents, and some monsters here are really dangerous. In addition, you will need to jump over cliffs, use a jetpack, look for new biomes, and so on. The game completely moves you to an unknown world that you need to study in detail. Suddenly, this planet is unsuitable for life? Or perhaps you are far from the first to land on it? These questions must be answered.
Journey to the Savage Planet looks like a very peppy and active game that is ready to bring joy from research and shootings. Moreover, you can play not only in solitude, but also in a cooperative, which is much more fun. A few flattering words are also worth mentioning about the graphics - the developers abandoned the procedurally generated world in favor of manual work. Thanks to this, the world of the project looks extremely impressive, interesting and realistic. As much as possible with this setting, of course. Fans of space travel and extraterrestrial civilizations, this new product is definitely suitable.
Journey to the Savage Planet will be released on January 28 on PS4, PC and Xbox One.
