To be honest, I did not expect that my previous article about Rovio will gain so many advantages, so I decided, or rather I was asked, to continue, which is what I want to do, telling about Halfbrick Studios this time. The history of this no less popular company is waiting for you under the cut.
Halfbrick Studios is an Australian video game company, author of such popular games as Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride. But, like the company that became the heroine of my previous article, fame and fame did not come right away.
To begin with, Halfbrick was founded in 2001 and first released games for consoles (PlayStation 2, Gamecube, Xbox, Game Boy Advance, etc.).
Their first game was Rocket Power: Beach Bandits, released for PS 2, Gamecube and Xbox. After that, the company produced many more games for consoles, which did not bring real popularity.
These were: Ty the Tasmanian Tiger 2 \ 3, Nicktoons: Battle for Volcano Island, Fuzz & Rocket, Avatar: The Last Airbender 1 \ 2 and others.
And only in 2010, Halfbrick Studios entered the market of mobile games with an arcade game for iOS - “Age of Zombies” (later the game was ported to other platforms), then, apparently realizing that this business was more profitable, the company began releasing in mostly games for mobile platforms.
Only in 2010, 3 fairly high-quality games were released, one of which gained immense popularity: Blast Off, Monster Dash and Fruit Ninja (this game, which later became a hit, appeared in iOS, Android, Bada, Ovi, Windows Phone stores ) From that moment on, the company gained fame and its new games downloaded at a faster pace.
Now the company has 85 employees in its head office (it is located in Australia) and another 200 around the world.
Here is their "family" photo:
It seems to me that in this game they didn’t bother with the gameplay at all: the goal of the “fruit ninja” is to cut fruits (also virtual) with a virtual sword, in other words, just to swipe the finger across the screen in different directions, but this did not stop critics (and consumers) it’s good to perceive the game, on the contrary, simple management has become the reason for popularity, because even children can play it, which seriously increases the audience of players.
As of January 2013, the game has already been downloaded over 300 million times in total, which, of course, does not reach the Angry Birds, but it is still impressive.
A dynamic runner, in which the role of the main character is played by an ordinary guy named Barry (by the way, he is the hero of several games from Halfbrick Studios), who decided to escape from the secret, as I understood, underground laboratory with the help of a jetpack, there are obstacles in his way (how without this?) which he must overcome.
Thanks to the various bonuses and improvements that you discover as you progress through it, it’s very interesting to play Jetpack Joyride, I advise everyone to install this runner if you haven’t already done so.
That's not the most significant, if I may say so, game developer for consoles has become a famous gamemaker for mobile OS.
