Being an avid lover of the appearance of German tanks, I spent a lot of time in World of Tanks. But at some point I quit this game - the gameplay became boring, and the local developers were too lazy. WoT's main competitor, War Thunder , recently received a major update that caught my attention. And not in vain - update 1.67 returned me to tank games.
As already mentioned, I did not touch any tank games for about 2-3 years. During this time, World of Tanks has changed a lot (as far as I heard), but WarThunder did not stand still. At one time I tried this game, and I did not really like it, but now it has been brought to mind and polished. First, a few words about the main gameplay.
Hardcore gameplay motivates you to get better
Initially, the big difference between World of Tanks and War Thunder was the hardcore gameplay in the creation of the company Gaijin. A less random punching system and a realistic tank behavior system were implemented a few years ago, and over time it was polished. On a heavy tank, you can get a one shot from an average machine. This will scare many away from the game, but such a system is more motivated to become better - it teaches you to use the card's features for the so-called "positioning".
Experience shows that survival on a WarThunder map depends on knowledge of the terrain and player experience. You can take some imba like the American T29 and stand so that one tower is visible, or you can carefully drive along the edge of the map and take the sniper position on the self-propelled guns. Variability is present, and its understanding comes gradually.
With regard to aircraft, I can say that personally I am not a fan of air battles. But in WarThunder they are, perhaps, implemented the best of the rest of the games. A large selection of real aircraft models, dynamic gameplay and the same hardcore. After all, these same developers at one time worked on the IL-2 Sturmovik series.

It so happened that my beloved nation in tank games received some very good cars. The German branch has acquired an excellent premium tank Ru 251 . Very fast machine, which well straightens the balance of the entire line of German tanks. At middle ranks, Germany has almost no fast cars that could quickly take up positions in the first minutes of the battle. Now it can do Ru 251.
This reconnaissance tank has a speed of up to 80 km / h in arcade mode, and even more in realistic mode. In a collision with even the most armored tanks, a piercing gun will help, for which cumulative shells are available. Of course, there is no smell of armor here, but the tank is deft and penetrative. In the War Thunder update 1.67, I liked playing on Ru 251 the most.
Another novelty in the German lineup was the Sturmpanzer II self-propelled gun. This funny self-propelled gun is a real killer and nagibator on its battle rating. All thanks to the 150-mm gun, which launches the most powerful high-explosive shells. They will become fatal for any equipment that you encounter in battles. The local eight-cylinder engine makes it easy to change position - the main thing is not to get under fire. Amusing piece of "Sturmpanzer": the car rolls slightly back after firing from its gun - the power of the gun is felt. Such little things add realism to the game.
Objective imba updates - IS-6 . This premium tank is definitely worth the money spent on it. This is a mobile heavy vehicle with good frontal armor and a great gun. Its only weakness is the cannon mask. The tank easily vanishes into it, but experienced players are unlikely to expose this small area under attack.
The most interesting car in terms of gameplay in the update is the Soviet 29-K anti - aircraft gun. In fact, this is an anti-aircraft 76-mm gun mounted on the good old YAG-10 truck. This mix was actually used during the Great Patriotic War. On the battlefield of War Thunder, such an anti-aircraft gun brings a lot of pleasure from the game. Firstly, it is fast - you can quickly change position. Secondly, its cannon is very powerful - it pierces almost everyone (with the exception of the "Mouse"). And thirdly, all this looks pretty funny and unusual.
The rest of the cars are typical middle peasants. The American T34 loses much to the imperial T29. The Sarayny FV4005 is a fun car that breaks through any tank in the game, but its gameplay will disappoint many with a huge turret without armor. The Japanese were generally joked a bit with the launch of the Type 60 ATM rocket carrier.
Single mode for PvE
One big drawback of many multiplayer games is the lack of a good single player mode for farming domestic currency on bots. War Thunder recently lost this problem. The so-called "Storm" mode appeared. It can be played so far only on airplanes. You can play alone against bots or with friends or random players.

The idea of "Sturm" is this: in the case of airplanes, you need to protect your base from enemy bombers. Any technique involved in the hangar. Developers encourage participation in the Sturm with individual rewards - amplifiers for the farm. Thus, you can farm bots for pumping equipment, if you do not want to bother much in standard battles, where you can fly off from the one-shot.
The main thing in "Sturm" is to kill bots as quickly as possible, but it's difficult to do. It is important to choose the right fast equipment with a good gun. Otherwise, defeat awaits you. Honestly, the mode is not balanced yet, since the bots too quickly take out the base, and it is difficult to destroy enemy bombers, even if it is a computer. Soon the “Storm” for tanks will appear.
What is the result?
All of the above is just part of the major War Thunder 1.67 update. The first big update of 2017 brought a lot of converted car models - both tanks and aircraft. Two new locations appeared - one for air battles, and the second for ground battles. And much more and much more that pleases. The guys from Gaijin duly support their game, developing the concept of "all in one." Soon, ships that will join the aircraft and tanks will go through testing.
Sea battles are already being tested
War Thunder is a multi-level game where for everyone there is a favorite technique, their own style of play and their own mode. However, the network code was left "with quirks." A few years ago, when I first met this game, I met flying tanks, overturned cars, and more. I saw this a couple of times in update 1.67. In general, this didn’t really bother me, since there were such bugs with other players.
You can also say that in comparison with World of Tanks the creation of "snails" is much harder, even in arcade modes of the game. This scares off a lot of players. But enough to carry out about 50 battles, even the most casual player will become an inveterate tanker and pilot.
