Hello, dear visitors of the Trashbox portal! Today I am ready to present to you the latest article of the Decade series, released as part of the column "sunk into oblivion". As can be seen from the title of the article, we will talk about the 2000s. In my opinion (maybe indeed), over this decade, high technology has developed much more rapidly than in previous decades.
Let us recall this not-so-distant, but already sunk, decade!
The scoreboard in France shows "1900" instead of "2000"
2000 is the year that brought a certain amount of glitches and problems to computers around the world. This is the so-called "Problem 2000". The fact is that old computer systems determined the year by the last 2 digits of the year (74, 95, 98, etc.). Because of this, computers mistakenly perceived 00 (2000) as 1900. This caused a break in the template on the computer and it defined all files created before 2000 as files created in the future (obviously why).
2000 is the year of release of Windows 2000. The new system was intended for both clients and servers; for each type of computer, a separate edition of the system was released. This system belongs to the NT line, version 5.0. The system came out on February 17th.
2000 is the year of release and Windows Me. The system is called “ME” in honor of the new, third millennium (Millenium Edition - Millennium Edition). In this system, things appeared that were previously typical only for NT-systems. Components like Movie Maker, System Restore, IE5.5, etc. appeared here. The system takes 4th place in the ranking of the popular reputable magazine PC World. The rating, however, is called "The Worst Products of All Time". The magazine talked about how users suffered not only when working with this system, but also when shutting down.
The system was released on September 14, 2000.
2000 - Apple offers to buy a beta version of the new Mac OS X. The beta price was $ 29.95. So the apple company invited developers and even some users to get acquainted with the new system. The Aqua interface was first shown on this system.
2000 - the most popular game console of all time was released - PlayStation 2. The device went on sale March 4 (Japan) / October 26 (North America) / November 24 (Europe)
2001 - Apple introduces Mac OS X 10.0 Cheetah. If the buyer has already purchased Public Beta, then he received a discount of $ 30 (5 cents benefit :)) The system was released on March 24.
2001 - Microsoft introduced Windows XP. This system belongs to the Windows NT family and has a version number of 5.1. In this system, the Luna interface (standard blue theme) was first shown. This system was supposed to end the era of MS-DOS / Windows 9x and begin a new era of the integrated Windows NT system. The server version of Windows XP was released in 2003 and had a version number 5.2, the same version number was also found in the 64-bit version of Windows XP Professional 2005 release. The system was released on August 24, went on sale on October 25.
first generation iPod
2001 - Apple introduced the iPod. The word "pod" means "detachable compartment", "capsule." The slogan of the new device was: "1000 songs in your pocket." The brand announcement took place on October 23.
2001/2002 - release and start of sales of the first console from Microsoft - XBOX. It is worth noting that Microsoft already had experience in the gaming direction. She gained this experience with SEGA. They worked together on Dreamcast, the latest console from SEGA.
Shuttleworth aboard the ISS
2002 - Mark Shuttleworth, known to us from Canonical and the Ubuntu OS, became the first astronaut from South Africa.
2003 - Intel introduced the Pentium M.
2003 - A modified version of the PlayStation 2 called PSX was released. PSX had more features aimed in the video and TV side. The device went on sale December 13 in Japan. It is worth noting that the device also had a 160 GB / 250 GB hard drive.
2004 is the first release of the Ubuntu OS, which is the most popular Linux distribution. Today, this distribution is installed on many web servers.
2005 - The Xbox 360, the second console from Microsoft, was launched.
2006 - November 1 this year was released RTM-version of Windows Vista. Vista brought many innovations, including the new Aero interface, which, according to many users, was inconvenient. The reason was the difference between active and inactive windows - only the close button was highlighted in active windows.
Mac OS X Leopard 10.5 - Latest OS for PowerPC Architecture
2005-2006 - Mac transition from PowerPC to Intel processors. Now, theoretically, OS X systems can run on regular PCs. However, OS X does not support a very wide range of core hardware, so they are cautious when building a computer for Mac OS X. In general, the license agreement does not allow installing this system on third-party computers.
2007 - the revolutionary device - iPhone was released. It had a huge by those standards display - 3.5 inches. Its distinctive feature was the lack of a physical keyboard and the use of a touch screen as the main and only input tool. The lack of a keyboard led to ridicule from former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer.
2007 - Apple Computer is now simply called Apple.
2007 - the legendary Nokia N95 was released.
2008 - the first Android smartphone - HTC Dream. Remarkably, before the release, there were rumors about HTC Omni on Windows Mobile, but HTC said that Omni = Dream. I wonder what would happen if Omni came out on Windows Mobile?
2009 - November 11 came out no less legendary Nokia N900. The device was based on the Maemo platform, which was built on the basis of Linux, which opened up new paths for developers, hackers and just enthusiasts.
2009 - the release of the first and only Nokia netbook - Booklet 3G. The device was shipped with Windows 7 Starter and was, in general, just an experiment of the company. Known CNET rated this device 4 points out of 5 possible; The resource stated that this device is “a wonderful piece of engineering.” The device went on sale at a price of 575 euros, which makes it one of the most expensive netbooks. However, I note that this is not the first entry into the PC market from Nokia - the first was the MikroMikko computer.
2009 - Windows 7 was released. Windows 7 is a work on the errors made in Windows Vista. This is also visible in the general interface (the changes are not so significant), and in the version number of Windows NT - here it is 6.1, and in Vista - 6.0
2009 - Nokia Twist square phone released. It was released specifically for the Verizon operator and had a retractable QWERTY keyboard.
2009 - An agreement was signed between Nokia and Microsoft. According to this agreement, the companies had to work on the release of joint products, for example, MS Office Mobile. It was planned to produce other products for the corporate sector. These products were intended for devices belonging primarily to the E-line (business devices, usually with a QWERTY keyboard). However, I note that the range of supported devices was not limited to the E-line.
On this not-so-funniest note, I would like to complete this issue of Decades. Follow the announcements and do not miss new articles! :)
All good! :)
PS I propose voting: which issue of the Decade was the best? :)
