On Monday, July 4, in Moscow, the final of the All-Russian contest “IT SCHOOL chooses the strongest!” . The event was supported by the Faculty of Computer Science of the Higher School of Economics and was the grand opening of the fourth summer school for the development of mobile applications for high school students, which will be held at the faculty from July 3 to 7. Trashbox.ru attended the presentation of the best projects and found out which applications are in trend today.
Throughout the academic year, students of the project independently developed mobile applications on the Android platform - all 592 graduates of 2016-2017 took part in the competition. As a result, on Monday we saw the presentation of 17 strongest teams from 12 cities.
The winners in the main nominations were determined by the jury members: representatives of the largest Russian technical universities, including MIPT, leading specialists of the Samsung Research Center, as well as other experts. Projects were evaluated according to several criteria: relevance and novelty of an embodied idea, application functionality, its technical implementation, as well as ease of use and design.
Today, in the final of the competition, we saw the best works of our graduates - they achieved truly outstanding results. The goal of our educational projects is to contribute to training in the field of high technology, to help children lay the foundations of a successful career. In the future, it is they, future specialists, who will help develop the technical potential of our country.

The winner in the nomination “Game application” was the original game TheCatQuiz (authors: Stepankov Andrey, Kozlov Nikita, Kaliningrad). The best in the “Programming” nomination was the Botanic plant reference (authors: Alexander Mamaev, Evgeny Oleinik, Chelyabinsk), using neural network technologies for optical recognition of plants and obtaining information about them.
The Ghosthouse game (authors: Glazova Anastasia, Glazova Maria, Nizhny Novgorod) became the favorite of users in online voting, and the interactive environmental map Enliven (author: Tarasov Vladislav, Moscow) received a “grand prix” an application that promotes environmentally responsible behavior and motivates users to protect nature.
Interview with a jury memberAfter making the results, we talked with the jury member, the commission's secretary, Svetlana Yun , the head of the solution ecosystem development group for the business solutions laboratory at the Samsung Research Center.
First, we found out who comes to the courses and why. According to Svetlana, there are no special barriers for talented children, because training is free: “You just need to find out if there is a Samsung IT SCHOOL branch in your city (there are 22 of them in Russia) and apply. The first round is remote, held online. Then, in case of success, the applicant will have a face-to-face interview. By the way, a new set is coming! ”
However, this imposes certain restrictions on the number of students: “To enter the school, you need to make some efforts, because sometimes a competition reaches 15 people per place! Of course, children who are already involved in the IT topic, who like to program, come to us. “Those who are result-oriented, who like project activity and, most importantly, those who know how to work and learn independently, reach the end.”
We could not help but wonder how we chose the winner of the “grand prix” of the contest. Svetlana Yoon and her colleagues felt that the Enliven project "had the brightest idea." In addition, his creator was driven by a lofty goal: “Preserving the ecology and educating the right behavior, the right treatment of the environment is very noble. We, as a company that preaches the principles of nature conservation, could not pass by such a project. Moreover, this year is the year of ecology. ”
Naturally, we asked which applications were of most interest to the younger generation of developers. “Judging by our students, these are all kinds of games. Educational programs are popular among social applications (two were presented in the final): preparing for exams, quickly receiving information about grades, magazines, school life, communicating with classmates and teachers - all this is close and understandable to children, they know how and for whom they should work applications, - the jury member explained.
And, of course, we asked how Samsung representatives assess the level and prospects of their graduates. “Our courses are good and provide an excellent foundation, but they will not replace higher education, - no one has canceled the fundamental things in the field of software development. But the school will be a good help in gaining practice-oriented skills. And when the guys graduate from the university, we will be glad to see them, including among the ranks of our company employees, ”Svetlana explained.
