I greet you, dear readers and users of the best mobile portal called Treshbox.ru. Rovio has already squeezed enough juice from the Angry Birds franchise, a popular franchise, and a recently released publisher has released a new game, which many thought was the next iteration of evil birds, but it didn’t. RETRY is not something completely new, but it deserves some attention, especially considering that the developer of the game is Rovio. First things first. Read the full review under the cut .
So, RETRY from Rovio is the latest game, which in most cases is mistakenly compared to the mega-hit Flappy Bird. Compare even though RETRY and Flappy Bird have very little in common. It was released for the Android and iOS operating systems on behalf of LVL11 - this is one of the units of Rovio that is engaged in the development of experimental games. Let's find out what the RETRY novelty is and why it is put in direct comparison with the legendary creation of Don Nguyen.
RETRY puts the user in the following position: you are in the cockpit of an out of control plane, and all you have is a series of obstacles that must be overcome in order to get to the finish line and pass the level. If RETRY is compared to Flappy Bird, then you probably thought that this process would be quite complicated, but it’s not so - an uncontrolled aircraft, as strange as it sounds, is easier to control than a small green bird of Flappie.
FLIGHT. ACCIDENT. REPEAT Nobody said it was easy.
The game is made in a two-dimensional style using old-school 8-bit retrography (stylized as old console and computer games) - we welcome the distant eighties. Usually the use of similar graphics for modern games is primitive, but in RETRY it is surprisingly diverse. In addition to controlling the aircraft, you need to collect coins and try not to crash on the ground. The main and priority task for the player is to fly safe and sound to the end of the level and land on a special landing site. Perhaps it is stupid on the one hand, but in order to fully pass the level, you need to land the plane precisely at this very special place. Flying a little further or vice versa, your result will not be counted.
There are several tens of levels in RETRY, and each of them becomes longer and more difficult in the process of passing them. Airplane control is the most naughty thing: at the slightest mistake, meet instant death. In terms of gameplay, you need to be very patient, but the control does not reach the level of Flappy Bird and similar analogues. If you click on the screen, the plane rises, if you release it, it falls into a tailspin, and if you hold it, it starts to loop. Having a certain knack, a player can land not only on some surfaces, but even on water. Then, taking a breath, you can continue the flight to the destination without anxiety and worry.
BY SCREWS! Loop, barrel, candle - learn tricks or repeat forever.
Along with dodging obstacles, you must also collect coins in the level. They will occur to the user as they progress through a given location. Most of them are hard to reach, but you have to handle it. Coins play the role of preserving your life - by collecting them, you can stop on supporting hangars in the middle of the levels. Thus, each level has several checkpoints that require one coin. One save - respectively, one coin. If there is suddenly no money left, you will have to watch an advertising video lasting 30 seconds - where without it. Purchasing new aircraft or power-ups is not foreseen.
Another thing is collecting silver nuts - yes, that's right. The so-called silver nuts are much less common than coins, and they are even more difficult to achieve. Nuts are required to purchase one of the three special abilities in the game. The first ability gives extra lives - you can hit something and not die immediately. The second ability slows down the time until the next checkpoint. The third ability turns you into a magnet, which attracts coins to itself with unstoppable gravity.
In addition, each level has three stars that you can earn and then use to unlock new levels. Stars are awarded to a player for such things as full completion of a level, completion of a level with a certain number of restarts and disasters, completion of a level with a certain distance traveled, and so on. As levels become more complex, all of these add-ons are also even more difficult to get.
When you crash the plane, that is, die, you will have a choice: repeat the level or restart it from the very beginning. Repeat will mean restarting the level from the last checkpoint. Restarting, accordingly, will start the game from the very beginning and your statistics will be restarted.
But do not cry, you can always REPEAT.
RETRY is definitely tough, but not as complicated as they say. This is the very moment when I call the comparison of RETRY with Flappy Bird completely unreasonable. The popular Flappy Bird virus consisted of just one trick, and only by doing it each time you could overcome more and more pipes. RETRY is a similar process, but in a more rigid, interesting and entertaining form, rather than meaningless, as is the case with Flappy Bird.
Of course, there are some built-in purchases (IAPs) in RETRY. You can buy virtual coins and nuts for real money. In fact, this is not an optional factor at all - passing levels in the game, you will find a sufficient number of coins to always have at hand several control points. As for nuts, I never really used any of them. And now it's time to take stock of the traditional results of today's review.
The new RETRY game from Rovio is not a Flappy Bird clone, of which I am absolutely confident. The gameplay in RETRY is much more complex than in Flappy Bird, and more importantly, controlling an uncontrolled airplane can be more fun than you think. Novelty addictive. Rovio from Rovio is free, but, as you already know, has in-app purchases. I highly recommend you try out the new RETRY game, whether it was made by Rovio or not, or do you think it's a Flappy Bird clone. Our convenient buttons are at your service.
