“Created specifically for Muslims” - this is how the domestic brand BQ Mobile is positioning its new smartphone called Belief (from the English “faith”). In addition to an oriental-style drawing and a pair of standard Muslim-themed pictures for the screensaver, BQ-5071 has special applications that can search for mosques, notify of the beginning of prayer, search for shops and restaurants with halal food, and even send ayahs from the Koran via social networks.

BQ – 5071 Belief is packed in a simple cardboard box, which, nevertheless, tries to match the content with the design: recognizable oriental patterns are printed on blue cardboard, and the name of the smartphone is “embossed” in gold. East, as they say, is a delicate matter. Inside - a smartphone, cable, network adapter (1.5 A, 5 V), instructions and even the promised warranty card.
AppearanceThe back cover of the BQ Belief immediately attracts attention - a black intricate ornament in Arabic style on textured silver plastic. The second design option for this model is a white pattern on black.
The main camera, framed by a square frame, is located in the upper left corner of the panel, the flash is directly below it. The speaker was placed on a more spacious back cover, and the Belief logo, stylized in Arabic script, was located directly above it.
The sloping edges of the smartphone and side buttons are also made of silver plastic. Both connectors - Micro-USB and Mini-Jack - fit on the top edge of the phone. The volume slider and the power button are traditionally located on the right edge. The left and bottom remain unusually smooth, because the SIM and microSD slots are under the cover next to the battery. By the way, this plastic panel holds tightly in place, does not play and does not bend under the fingers.
The front panel is made in strict black color, which successfully masks the thick frames of the display. From above, right on the border with the upper face, a conversational speaker hid. It is difficult to make out the accurate point of the front camera: it was rolled up under the plastic of the screen. When you put the phone on charge, the piercing blue light of the LED indicator begins to shine from the top left (it also blinks, informing about new notifications).
The lower platform under the display looks unusually deserted: some physical key begs for free space, however, control is carried out using standard on-screen buttons.
Despite the patterned silver backdrop and the light-playing plastic texture, BQ Belief has a purely masculine “figure”. Width - centimeter, sloping edges expand to the corners, no tricks with 2.5D-glasses: thick dark plastic without sentiment was jammed over a silver case.
“Chunky” BQ-5071 with its rounded “sides” fits very comfortably in your hand, and a modest diagonal of 5 inches provides convenient control with one finger, without having to intercept the phone.
DisplayA 5-inch screen with HD resolution recognizes only 2 simultaneous touches, but this already gives it the right to be called a capacitive multi-touch. You need to work with the gadget in the old-fashioned way - to press with some effort, feeling a nostalgic "buzz" at your fingertips.
Designers managed to turn unpretentious ordinary glass (without 2,5D) into a kind of brutal design chip. There is no oleophobic coating, so the screen needs to be handled more carefully. We do not recommend using a protective sticker: the sensitivity of the sensor is significantly reduced.
The screen brightness for a phone of this level is quite adequate: there are no problems either in the dark or in bright sunlight. In the standard, the picture is faded, so you should go to the MiraVision Android service and enable dynamic contrast, you can also choose the brightness mode from the three offered there. The distortions in colors and contrast when turning do not go beyond the reasonable: the shades of the dark merge a little, the white becomes pinkish, but this is absolutely not critical. Glare is much more disturbing.
CamerasThe BQ-5071 has 8 and 5 megapixel cameras with a standard Android interface. The main one is in the upper left corner of the back cover flush with its surface. Directly below it is a single-tone flash of two LEDs. The front hid under a protective glass in the upper right corner of the front panel and does not have its own flash.
The main one takes photos, panoramas and videos. In quick access shooting by gesture (responds quickly), HDR mode, flash, as well as the mode “Beautiful face”. If you get into the settings menu, then you can find much more different modes and additional filters.
As a rule, you don’t need to climb into the jungle of the menu: the camera interprets the conditions quite adequately and does not lie in the white balance. Another thing is that 8 megapixels still impose a certain framework on the range of creative research: landscapes are frankly muddy. The HDR mode somewhat saves the situation. But close-up shots look pretty good. The camera focuses without problems at any distance (from 3.5 cm). For good macro, again, you have to use HDR, - sharpness and detail is increased by an order of magnitude. The camera responds quickly in the "Shooting by gesture" mode, and also easily creates panoramas.
In the dark, the camera does not show any supernatural results regarding its technical data. It takes good colors, but the quality of the pictures leaves much to be desired, it is better not to use the zoom at all. The HDR mode somewhat saves the situation. But the flash pleased - powerful, takes a good distance. The quality of the video is comparable to the photo: it turns out better in the daytime, in the dark the flash is used as constant light, the sound is recorded mediocre, but everything is distinguishable.
The front 5-megapixel camera is luck for a smartphone of this level. As a rule, in such cases, manufacturers are limited to 2 megapixels. The interface is similar to the main camera, except that there is no panorama mode. In automatic mode, it shoots well, quickly guided by a gesture. Particular attention should be paid to the “Beautiful face” function, because selfie is its main “bread”. As practice has shown, in most cases the use of this lotion is not necessary - 5 megapixels just successfully ignores minor skin imperfections, but the hardware improvement acts clumsily, turning the portrait into an example of a bad “photoshop”. The video also writes decently, you can record a decent video or communicate without problems in numerous chat rooms, Skype and others like them.
OS and interfaceBQ Belief has the standard Android 6.0 Marshmallow installed without branded shells and improvements. Unless in the wallpaper, in addition to the standard BQ-shny background for the desktop, there is a couple more - in the oriental style. They, by the way, are much more convenient - there are no distracting inscriptions. There are no additional predefined themes.
When you turn on a brand-new device, the user immediately waits for a number of pre-installed programs, including all sorts of online stores, services, various browsers, a variety of toys and, of course, the very Muslim applications (Muslim Pro and iQuaran).
The initial location of the shortcuts is not very convenient: the desktops are littered with partner services, and the most popular applications have to be searched in the shared folder, and then dragged closer. Particularly outraged by the lack of tables "Camera", "Settings", PlayMarketa and "Gallery". Many popular services (especially applications from Google) have to urgently load.
Muslim Pro resembles a cross between a Muslim organizer and a thematic social network. One of its main tasks is to calculate the time of prayers based on the current location and notify on time the beginning of prayer. That is, 5 times a day, the smartphone begins to loudly and aggressively call for prayer. Now it’s clear why he needs such a powerful speaker: for the faithful to be able to distinguish the signal in urban noise. There is also a “Qibla” in the menu - the section helps determine the direction to the holy Kaaba, which is important for prayers and other rituals.
In addition, the program helps to find nearby mosques, restaurants with a halal menu, contains the Quran and basic prayers with translation, a calculator for calculating
Zakat (compulsory alms for the benefit of those in need and for the development of projects that promote the spread of Islam, which is paid once a year), a Muslim calendar with a special calendar (it is not from the Nativity of Christ, but from July 16, 622 CE - the date of the resettlement of the prophet Muhammad and the first Muslims from Mecca to Medina), thematic audio compilation, the exact wording of the Shahada (the first and most important position of the Islamic creed) and even the tasbih beads (they are sorted out during prayers). The application is free, but persistently offers to buy a premium version with all sorts of additional nishtyak and improved interface.
iQuaran is a simple and convenient way to always have at your fingertips a holy book equipped with the latest technology. The Quran can be read in text form (in the original or in translation), make notes and bookmarks, listen to in audio formats, and send any ayah via Email, Facebook or Twitter.
Both programs will make life easier for believing Muslims, and Muslim Pro will be especially useful for visitors: agree, finding specific locations (especially for places with a halal menu) in an unfamiliar city without dating can be difficult. If you do not adhere to Islam, these programs can be easily removed - they are not sewn into the interface tightly. Although I advise everyone to get to know them - this is not only curious, but also helps to better understand another culture.
Those who crave new sensations in communicating with the device will surely be pleased with the extended gesture control menu: rummaging through the settings - and you can control the smartphone without touching it, but only effectively moving your palm over the screen. Aki Jedi ;-)
IronThe hardware here, of course, is modest: a four-core MediaTek MT6580 processor and a dual-core Mali400-MP2 video chip, 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal memory. The latter, by the way, is expanding with micro-SD right up to 128 GB!
It’s immediately clear that our BQ-5071 is far from a gaming device, but its performance is more than enough for comfortable Internet surfing, network communication, using all kinds of applications (most importantly, not 10 at the same time, otherwise it will slow down) and watching FullHD video from 30 fps. The results of the benchmarks are attached.
The possibilities of working with video are illustrated by the results of Antutu Video Tester: which formats it supports, which are not and with what jambs.
Simple games with simple graphics on this smartphone will go without problems: we advise you to pay attention to all sorts of puzzles, tetris and others like them. Trying a device with resource-intensive 3D toys is considered inhumane! Pre-installed games in this regard illustrate well the ceiling of the phone's capabilities (and they even hang a little). To test the capabilities of the graphics, our favorite Smash Hit was launched: the drawing of details was much simplified, but toss balls and earn points can still be done without problems. In game mode, the smartphone heats up significantly - up to about 60-65 ° C, and then starts to slow down.
CommunicationThe phone supports simultaneous alternate operation of 2 Micro-Sims, the slot for which is hidden under the back cover.
It’s worth starting with the main point: our Belief does not support 4G LTE, the range is limited to simple 3G.
The phone catches and distributes Wi-Fi, connects to devices with Wi-Fi Direct and Bluetooth - all the necessary functionality is there. Navigation options are average, but enough in the city, but we do not recommend relying on this phone for intercity travel.
SoundBQ-5071 has a really powerful external speaker, which is located not on the lower edge, as is often the case, but on the rear panel. On the plastic cover, we see slots, but the speaker itself can be considered in more detail if you remove the cover.
That's something, but this phone knows how to yell: the user is unlikely to miss a call or a prayer call even somewhere in the subway. This is not to say that the sound is clean and worthy of music lovers: at maximum the speaker begins to wheeze, and there is no expected wide range and depth here. Everything is purely utilitarian.
The operation of the audio chip cannot be called ideal: if the system is overloaded with background programs, the player will stutter. There are standard system sound settings in the menu: you can set the mode for the speaker or for headphones, but the difference to the average user will not be noticeable. This smartphone was clearly not intended for a player, but its capabilities are enough for comfortable communication and playback of signals.
BatteryA removable lithium-polymer battery is located under the removable back cover of the smartphone. Convenient - in which case you can easily replace or pull out in an emergency. Recharging is carried out using a charger with a micro-USB connector. In order to fully charge the battery from scratch with the original adapter, it will take more than an hour and a half.
But the charge on the 3 750 mAh battery lasts really long - the smartphone can rightfully be proud of it. In game mode, the battery lasts 4-5 hours, active users calmly pass with the phone for a day, in economy mode and with moderate use, you can completely afford to forget to charge the phone - the battery lasts for 2 days.
Our traditional battery test from Trashbox.ru, which takes place via Wi-Fi in Google Chrome, the BQ Belief battery performed with honor, lasting more than 9 hours.Trashbox.ru battery test results:

To summarizeDomestic BQ-5071 Belief immediately attracts attention: it is positioned as a smartphone, " created specifically for Muslims ." The phone is decorated in a recognizable oriental style, and also has special pre-installed Muslim Pro and iQuaran applications. However, the target audience of this budget employee is not limited to only one category of believers: the pattern on the back cover is easily perceived simply as a neutral decoration, and specific programs can be removed as unnecessary.
For your money (about 6 thousand rubles), the BQ-5071 offers all the necessary functions, an interesting design and long battery life. The target audience of the novelty is primarily the residents of Muslim countries of the CIS or, for example, adolescents and young people from Orthodox Islamic families. However, if we discard the Islamic “component”, then everyone who needs a simple, reliable and inexpensive phone for every day with a capacious battery should pay attention to this device.
- attractive price;
- powerful battery;
- loud speaker that is really audible;
- adequate application support for its segment;
- the design that distinguishes the phone from the mass of the same type of "bricks";
- a good front camera, which is useful not only for selfie, but for communication;
- really useful interface for muslims.
May not like:
- the glory of the first Muslim smartphone can equally attract a religious audience, and scare away the rest;
- the need to deal with a bunch of pre-installed programs on the main desktops, looking for really necessary menus in the bowels of the earth;
- weak main camera (especially for landscape photography);
- fast-paced display;
- If you urgently need to exit the application, it can be difficult to immediately find the on-screen control buttons.
- lack of 4G;
- not the best quality sound;
- "Thick" body.
Final rating: 7 out of 10.
