Smart watches and fitness bracelets are extremely popular gadgets today. If everything is more or less clear with fitness bracelets and a sports watch: a limited budget - we take any Mi Band, there are free funds - we look at something from Garmin. That is not so obvious with smart watches for the Android platform. There is a Samsung Galaxy Watch on Tizen OS, and there is a whole bunch of different smart watches on Wear OS (formerly Android Wear). What ultimately to choose? In this article I will try to answer this question.
Wear OS or Tizen?
I used the Samsung watch for a relatively long time, and I have something to tell about their proprietary platform. Wear OS I know only in passing, I have never had a watch on this platform for a long time, however, I have friends who use such a watch. Before writing the material, I talked with them to form a subjective opinion. So, let's begin.
Any recent models of watches from Samsung, be it Gear S3, Galaxy Watch or Galaxy Watch Active, are definitely worth considering for the purchase of Samsung smartphones to users. First is the ecosystem. Secondly, with a Samsung smartphone, you can receive calls received on your phone, as well as make more efficient use of the opportunities provided by the account in your Samsung account. The listed models have built-in contactless payment technology Samsung Pay, good autonomy, a stylish operating system and good performance. The watch also has a built-in app store and training tracking software. One of the latest Tizen OS updates has the ability to automatically detect stress. That is, the watch constantly monitors your pulse and, based on the readings, automatically determines whether you are nervous or not. If you started to worry, the watch itself will offer you to breathe in order to relax. Pretty useful feature, I can tell from my own experience.
However, in all smart watches from Samsung there is one rather serious problem - this is the application store, or rather, what is presented there. Unfortunately, despite the rather large selection of applications and dials, something really good is not enough there. Most of the applications are unstable, it feels as if the developers did all their software on their knees. And this is even with luck, no less than part of the applications from the store just does not work. Really useful software can be counted on the fingers. And it’s sad, however, Samsung smart watches still find their buyer, and there is something to love, believe me. Firstly, it is a stylish accessory, and secondly, a means to pay and reply to messages. But besides the watches on Samsung's Tizen OS, there are many options on Wear OS from other manufacturers, what about them?
Wear OS is a little different. Here is a rather rich application store - in it you can find the clients of most mobile applications, rewritten for wearable electronics and such problems with software as Samsung watches do not. However, there is a defragmentation problem, like all Android smartphones. One of my acquaintances was the owner of Fossil Gen 4, which are considered to be the flagship model among all smart watches on Wear OS, however, he experienced serious problems with them in everyday use. Jamming, crashes applications and fast battery discharge. But this was not the case with the inexpensive $ 200 TicWatch C2.
It turns out that both platforms are a set of compromises, on the one hand, you have good autonomy, a stable system, on the other hand, richer functionality with all the consequences. Which is better is a pure subjective. Personally, it seems to me that the following models will be optimal for purchase.
Samsung Galaxy Watch
I don’t think it's worth talking about their functionality, because I did it in the previous paragraph. The watch is equipped with a round display and a physical bezel, with which you can move around the system. The gadget has moisture protection according to the IP68 standard, so that they can not be removed while swimming or taking a shower. The autonomy of the 46 mm version is about 3-5 days, which is an excellent indicator for smart watches. The watch also has a speaker and a microphone, which makes it possible to make voice calls. If you were thinking about buying a smart watch, but you were not tempted by the smooth design of most models, then the Samsung Galaxy Watch may be an excellent choice for you, which you definitely will not regret.
Samsung Galaxy Watch Active
From a software point of view, this watch is no different from the older Samsung Galaxy Watch, however, in terms of appearance and dimensions, the difference is enormous. Firstly, the gadget does not have such an aggressive design that can be relevant during outdoor activities, when the chance of damage to the watch is too great. Samsung Galaxy Watch Active is suitable for guardians of a measured lifestyle. They combine perfectly with both sports and business clothes. Depending on your preference, you can change the strap on the watch. However, you will have to pay for the compact size with the battery - it is less than in a regular Galaxy Watch, and grabs it, based on personal experience of use, for 1-2 days relative to active use. There is also no bezel in the watch. This watch looks especially beautiful on a female hand. Before buying, keep in mind that the watch has a small screen and it may not work for you. In this case, I can recommend the second generation Samsung Galaxy Watch Active, which came out recently. They are distinguished by a large display, a larger battery and the presence of a digital bezel, which should replace the physical counterpart.
Mobwoi Ticwatch E
This watch is the cheapest option of all watches on Android Wear, which can only be bought on our official market in Russia. So, a little about the watch itself. I will not say anything about Wear OS, since everything has already been discussed above, all the more it makes no sense to convince you to buy watches on the platform from Google, if you want them, and you know why you need these watches. So, about the watch itself. The case of the Ticwatch E is made of dense matte plastic, which is why their weight is only 42 grams. Moreover, Xiaomi Mi Band 4 weighs 24 grams - and this is a fitness bracelet. It turns out that the Ticwatch E is one of the lightest watches on the market. However, weight is a trade-off regarding the size of the internal battery. Watches work with moderate use for one and a half to two days. If we take into account the cost of the gadget - 8,990 rubles, then we get a good offer. Especially if you do not want to spend a lot on hours. Of the subjective shortcomings, I can single out the lack of an NFC chip, and, as a result, support for contactless payment.
Mobwoi Ticwatch C
This is the second watch from the Chinese brand Mobwoi. What is the difference with the previous ones? Firstly, the case of this watch is made of aluminum. Secondly, they run on Qualcomm's hardware platform, while Ticwatch E runs on the Mediatek platform. And also by the presence on board of the NFC-module and support for the Google Pay payment service. In official Russian stores, this watch can be bought for 14,990 rubles. I can also recommend them to lovers of the classics. An important moment for many in this watch may be the presence of a standard watch mount with a width of 22 mm.
It seems to me that a selection of whatever technology is there, there will certainly be at least one gadget from Xiaomi. This material will not be an exception. Because it’s foolish to ignore good, and most importantly, inexpensive products. By the way, these words can be fully attributed to the Amazfit GTS smart watch. In fact, it is not Xiaomi that is manufacturing this wearable technology, but their sub-brand represented by Amazfit, and it does it well. In their line of wearable electronics there are both budget smart watches, for example, Amazfit BIP, which cost only 3-4 thousand rubles, and a more expensive solution. Amazfit GTS is the middle between. The device costs about 8-10 thousand rubles. And this is one of the cheapest smart watches with an AMOLED screen, stylish design and excellent battery life. From one charge, they can live up to two weeks with mixed use and as much as a month and a half in standby mode. Of the minuses in them, I can note the absence of contactless payment and third-party applications, since Amazfit GTS work on a proprietary operating system. In general, a good option for a gift to yourself or someone close to you as the first smart watch.
Mobwoi Ticwatch Pro
And for the sweetest thing - the flagship smartwatch on WearOS from Mobwoi. Not only do they have a stylish metal case, they have some special features that are important to know about. Firstly, it is a watch with two displays. No, this is not some kind of wrist Galaxy Fold. In addition to the AMOLED matrix, the LCD matrix is located above the layer, which takes on the function of displaying time in the always-on screen mode. Secondly, the watch has a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 productive hardware platform, 4 gigabytes of internal memory that can be used to store audio. Well and the most important thing is support of contactless payment Google Pay. Suitable for athletes and men who are accustomed to the classic watch design.
