Review CUBOT S600 - an average smartphone for $ 129.
Recently, a variety of companies have appeared on the market of low-cost mobile devices, it is simply impossible to keep track of many devices. The smartphone arrived in a small box of brown thick cardboard with a textured surface and an iridescent CUBOT inscription. In addition to the device itself, a power supply unit, a microUSB cable, a protective film, a plastic cover, a clip for the tray and accompanying documentation were included in the package of delivery. There is no headset included.
Manufacturers did not bother to come up with some kind of stylistic tricks, Cubot S600 received a rather strict and concise design. Before us is a large smartphone with rather large dimensions: 71.3 x 146.5 x 7.5 mm.
The back panel is made of rounded glass with the so-called pseudo-three-dimensional 2.5D effect, the main camera lens and flash are located on top, the fingerprint sensor and company logo are just below, and the external speaker is on the bottom.
The case is framed by a metal frame, thanks to which the Cubot S600 is more convenient to hold in your hand - due to the rounded corners and the slippery back panel, the smartphone strives to fall out of hand, so the cover is just what you need.
The front side is almost identical to the back - absolutely the same rounding at the edges. Above the screen is a speaker and a camera peephole. Below - small touch-sensitive Android control keys with low backlight.
At the top there is a 3.5 mm audio output for a headset, and a microUSB connector and a microphone in the center bottom. Both sides are covered with a protective film pasted at the factory.
Of the minuses, a very weak power button can be noted, it is literally pressed from the touch, which can in many cases lead to sad consequences in the form of calls, messages or running applications.
Cubot S600, like almost all other products of the company, is available in three colors: black, white and gold.
The appearance of the smartphone is quite pleasant - its black version is difficult to imagine in the hands of a girl, and quite a lot of weight also appeals to a purely male smartphone.
Screen and sound
Cubot S600 received a five-inch screen, made on an IPS-matrix with a resolution of 1280 × 720 and a pixel density of 320 ppi.
The viewing angles are wide, the colors of the images are saturated, there is no anti-reflective coating, but the brightness level is sufficient for comfortable work with the smartphone in bright sunlight.
It is worth noting a nice 2.5D display effect due to the rounded edges of the glass surfaces.
As for the sound - it is clean, even at the maximum set volume there were no wheezing or noise.
If we talk about the quality of conversations: here, too, everything is quite acceptable, in a public noisy place you can conduct a conversation without worrying that you or your interlocutor will not hear something.
Cubot S600 supports the following wired and wireless interfaces: GSM 850/900/1800 / 1900MHz; 3G: WCDMA 850/900/1900 / 2100MHz; 4G: FDD-LTE 800/1800/2100 / 2600MHz, Wi-Fi module (b / g / n), GPS / A-GPS and Bluetoon 4.0.
During use and testing. the smartphone showed high quality of communication: that in Wi-Fi networks, that in 4G networks, that when connecting GPS - it takes about 3-5 seconds to search for satellites, the connection is not interrupted.
The smartphone is equipped with two cameras: the main 13 megapixels with autofocus and LED flash, and the front - 5 megapixels with autofocus.
The main camera takes quite good pictures: in good lighting, the pixelation is minimal, the images are clear, the colors are saturated.
Of course, in the dark, the quality of the pictures drops noticeably, but they are 8 megapixels.
The front camera is quite suitable not only for video communications, but also for selfie shots.
The processor in the CUBOT S600 uses a 4-core 64-bit Media
Tek MT6735, Mali-T720 is responsible for the graphics. The amount of RAM - 2 GB, internal - 16 GB.
Quite typical average characteristics for a budget device, the smartphone will not pull heavy games, but it copes with everyday tasks: I did not notice any hangs during multitasking or noticeable heating of the case. Internet surfing is not satisfactory, the interface works smoothly, the smartphone does not hang when you launch several applications at the same time.
The smartphone is running Android 5 Lollipop with a standard launcher from the manufacturer, which is slightly modified: there is no application menu, all current programs are on the desktop. Changed application icons to their own.
Despite the weight, the device received a battery with a capacity of only 2700 mAh.
Considering that the S600 hardware is only enough for light games, such a capacity is enough for a long time of moderate work and for two whole days of heavy use.
In our test at 50% brightness with Google Chrome running and Wi-Fi turned on, the smartphone worked for 13 hours 44 minutes, a pretty good result, which means that you definitely have a smartphone for a day of work without recharging.
A review of the Cubot S600 would not be complete without a conclusion. The smartphone is a very worthy solution for a relatively low cost of $ 130. The camera also impresses with its good appearance - even if Cubot did not bother with the texture of the panels or bright colors, the smartphone turned out to be pretty in any case.
However, if you are looking for a long-playing smartphone, or maybe if you are looking for a thin and light smartphone, then the Cubot S600 is not for you.
