The Specter x360 packaging impresses with its impeccable appearance: a black cardboard box with a laconic Specter inscription.
It contained the device itself, a thin case, a power supply, a special cloth for wiping the display, as well as accompanying documentation.
The laptop got the most minimalistic design, but that didn’t make it any less attractive: the case, with its rounded edges at the front, is made of brushed aluminum, and details like chrome-plated hinges give it an interesting accent. I think you don’t need to think a lot to find the similarities and differences with the Apple Macbook.
A small inscription is engraved on the lid of the laptop - the full name of the manufacturer. Nothing else distracts us from the cold appearance of the ultrabook.
On its lower part there are four rubberized legs, two speakers and a ventilation hole. Again, nothing more.
On the left, on the end face are a connector for the power supply, a cooling system grill, a USB 3.0 port, an SDHC memory card slot and a power button, also made of metal. With the latter, manufacturers as soon as they do not experiment, placing it in the most unexpected places.
On the right side are the Start button, volume rocker, Mini DisplayPort, HDMI, and a 3.5mm audio output for the headset.
Look how thin and stylish it is, it is especially clearly seen in the photo above.
I would also like to note the build quality: not a single gap, play. The laptop does not creak and as a whole, a combination of reliability and lightness seems to be an excellent combination: with dimensions of 218x325x16mm, it weighs only one and a half kilograms.
Opening the lid, we will see a keyboard with island-type keys, which has a turn-off backlight. The keys have a slightly concave shape that responds positively to convenience, plus they have a smooth ride.
The touchpad also left a positive impression, it is responsive, responds quickly to tasks and touches, and is made of material that is pleasant to the touch.
If you throw the laptop cover 360 degrees, the laptop will turn into a large tablet. As soon as the cover touches the keyboard and touchpad, they automatically turn off.
And also, when the screen is on the keyboard, i.e. in fact, you use the ultrabook as a monitor, and the keyboard as a stand under it.
HP Specter x360 received a 13.3-inch screen with QHD resolution, made on the IPS-matrix, with no air gap - all these characteristics provided the display with wide viewing angles, incredible rich colors, high contrast and natural color reproduction.
Despite the glossy coating of the display, high brightness provides easy reading of information even in bright conditions.
Overall, the HP Specter x360 screen looks incredible. No flaws were noticed during the work.
operating systemWhen starting to work with an ultrabook, do not forget that Windows 8.1 was originally installed on it, which can be upgraded to Windows 10 Pro without problems, the system will even offer you to do this.
There are several preinstalled programs, some of which are worth paying attention to: software for setting up and administering the system from HP, tools for organizing user data protection and cloud services, activated McAfee antivirus with a built-in firewall, as well as parental control tools, etc. d.
It is on devices of the x360 type that you understand for what form factor Windows 8 was made first, and then 10.
Work with an ultrabook
As mentioned earlier, working with the Specter x360 is a pleasure due to its compactness and excellent display, but what about the “stuffing”?
Usually, ultrabooks get pretty mediocre hardware, but the device from HP is also positively different: the Intel Core i7 5500U processor with a clock speed of up to 3 GHz, an SDD drive and 8 GB of RAM make the HP Specter x360 13-4050ur stable and smooth.
No freezes, painfully long opening programs and browsers inherent in thin and stylish laptops.
Needless to say, turning on and restarting the ultrabook takes a matter of seconds.
Camera and sound
The ultrabook is equipped with a 2MP camera with face recognition technology. Since the camera in ultrabooks is used mainly for video messages, HP provided support for video transmission with a resolution of 1920x1080.
The sound is clear, loud, without the noise and wheezing inherent in many laptops, although it lacks low frequencies, but no one has canceled the use of speakers.
Due to the location of the speakers (on the rounded sides), the sound is not muffled even when the Specter x360 stands with the speakers down.
CommunicationIt supports work with Wi-Fi networks 802.11b / g / n and Bluetooth 4.0. During the test, the ultrabook established communication with various routers: with good reception and speed.
The battery capacity of 4200 mAh provides several 3-4 hours in online games with an average level of brightness, and 7-8 hours of viewing FullHD-video.
With intensive use, the laptop will last for 3-4 hours, with uninterrupted video playback - for 7 hours, with moderate use - 12 hours.
The HP Specter x360 teeters on the edge of the terms “laptop” and “ultrabook”. On the one hand, its display with the ability to rotate 360 degrees characterizes it as an ultrabook, on the other hand, its excellent performance lets you call it a full-fledged working laptop.
In any case, HP did a great job with its new device: stylish appearance, stunning screen, compactness and high performance. What else does an inexperienced user need? In addition, I would like to note a very competitive price for the device.
Final rating: 7 out of 10.
