The day before yesterday, September 5, Xiaomi held a special presentation in New Delhi (India). As part of this event, the Chinese technology giant introduced the Mi A1 smartphone - the first device from the new line, developed jointly with Google for the Android One program. The reviewer stayed with the Xiaomi Mi A1 a day after the announcement and is ready to talk about impressions of the new product. Also in our new article - analysis of the past presentation and Xiaomi plans for the near future.
The recent Xiaomi presentation in India is the largest event of the company in recent years. It is not surprising that in the framework of this particular event, Xiaomi decided to talk about its confident and rapid growth in the market. Manu Jain, Managing Director of Xiaomi Global, introduced the new philosophy of the Chinese manufacturer, announced the current growth indicators, and also announced plans for the near future.
First of all, Jain said that Xiaomi is today the fastest growing smartphone brand in the world, operating not only in China. Global companies such as Fast Company and the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) have recognized Xiaomi as the most innovative company in the world. At the moment, Xiaomi is present in 40 countries and is observing exponential growth in each of them. In global smartphone shipments, the company takes 5th place (in Russia, similarly - 5th place), being behind OPPO, Huawei, Apple and Samsung.
The presentation was held in India, so the company could not boast of its success in this market. Xiaomi came to India three years ago when it introduced the Mi3 flagship. Since then, the technology giant has sold more than 25 million smartphones - that's 22,000 devices daily or one smartphone every 4 seconds. In turn, thanks to high sales, Xiaomi took 2nd place among all smartphone brands represented in India. The company's share in the country as of the 2nd quarter of 2017 is 17%. For comparison: the leader of Samsung, it is equal to 24%, and Vivo owns 13% of the entire Indian market.
Moreover, Xiaomi reported that over the past year, the company's growth in the Indian market amounted to 328% - a 4-fold increase on an annualized basis. In terms of online sales, it has no equal - starting from the 2nd quarter of 2017, the Xiaomi brand takes 1st place with a record share of 46.9%. Competitors, meanwhile, are not even close to Xiaomi: Lenovo (18.3%), Samsung (9.5%), Apple (3.4%) and Huawei (2.3%). The best-selling smartphones were Redmi Note 4 (7.2%) and Redmi 4 (4.5%) - they led the top 2. The third on the list is the Samsung Galaxy J2 with an indicator of 4.3%.
As for the new philosophy, now it looks literally like that - “Innovation for everyone” or “Innovation for everyone”. No conventions - only innovations available to every person on the planet. More innovative technologies and devices that leave competitors far behind. Frameless Mi Mix , the proprietary Surge S1 processor and the new Mi A1, according to Xiaomi, are some of these products.
In the future, Xiaomi plans to open more Mi Home retail stores. At the moment, there are 5 in India. Over the next 2 years, the company intends to launch a whole network of more than 100 stores across the country (Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and Pune). In Russia, Xiaomi is officially represented in several cities: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Vladivostok, Yekaterinburg, Rostov-on-Don and Ryazan.
Xiaomi Mi A1
Xiaomi Mi A1 was the first smartphone in the history of the Chinese company that comes without MIUI and is developed with support from Google. The novelty is part of the Android One program, which produces devices based on a clean version of Android with the latest features and operational updates from Google. At the presentation stage in India, Mi A1 was presented by Donovan Sung, Xiaomi Global Product and Marketing Director.
The main features of the new Android One smartphone are three qualities: a large display, a dual camera and an all-metal body. We can say that the Mi A1 in the Google program is the first truly premium product equipped with mid-range hardware and a flagship dual camera. Color options are also not small in comparison with Android One devices released earlier - Mi A1 is offered in black, gold and pink gold.
In addition to the metal case and dual camera, Xiaomi Mi A1 differs from its competitors in this price range and several other features. For example, to evenly distribute heat inside the case, Xiaomi installed a sheet of pyrolytic graphite in Mi A1. The smartphone also has good sound, the quality of which is ensured by a separate amplifier with support for high-impedance headphones and the Dirac HD Sound (DHS) calibration algorithm. High performance is provided by the eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, made according to the 14-nanometer process technology.
Additional press renderings of Xiaomi Mi A1 in all colors:
At the last presentation, Xiaomi devoted a significant amount of time to the dual camera, which is installed in the Mi A1. It is she who is the leading feature in the new product. The company claims that the capabilities of the smartphone in terms of shooting are close to flagship devices, and in some details even surpass them. Mostly comparisons were made with the current flagships of the market from Android and iOS - OnePlus 5 and iPhone 7 Plus.
The so-called flagship dual camera in Xiaomi Mi A1, as Donovan Sun announced at the presentation, is an ideal picture and a new experience in mobile photography. The best landscapes, the best portraits with bokeh effect and the best color rendition. All this is achieved through the use of two modules, usually used in high-end devices: a wide-angle lens (26 mm) and a telephoto lens (50 mm). The resolution of both sensors is 12 megapixels, the size of a single pixel is 1.25 microns, due to which 56% more light is captured.
The subsequent processing of the final images is carried out by artificial intelligence - a special algorithm based on deep learning using stereo images.
It is noteworthy that the standard camera in Xiaomi Mi A1 uses not Google Camera , but a proprietary application from MIUI firmware. It contains all the necessary functions, including support for HDR, portrait mode and 2x optical zoom. In the standard Google Photos gallery, unlimited storage for photos is available, as in Pixel smartphones.
