The box that comes with Aquaris X is matte black and consists of two elements connected by the matchbox principle, with the inside slightly protruding from the outside.
The packaging design itself is like a “black box” in the good sense of the word, it exudes mystery and fuels a pleasant anticipation from an early meeting with its contents. The large glossy “X” symbol gleams on the front and back sides, on the other faces - small black inscriptions “bq” and silver-embossed executed name of the smartphone model - except for those that have stickers with brief information on technical specifications and control numbers. On the side of the outer box is a barely distinguished company logo.
Separating the inner and outer parts, you can see the side edge of the smartphone, which is “sandwiched” between paper blocks, the small of which is glued into the package, and the large one is a storage for accessories, and contains a bag with a brief user manual, a warranty card and a leaflet indicating the site , where you can buy accessories for phones, a Quick Charger 5V 3A charger with a 1-meter-long USB Type-C cable and a “key” for opening a compartment with SIM cards.
AppearanceAquaris X is made in an aluminum case and is elegant in every way and impresses from the first opening of the box, when only the side face is visible to the buyer. Actually, the style consists of individual elements:
The front panel of the smartphone is covered with 2.5D rounded glass that covers the screen, surrounded by small side frames, as well as a status light above it, a flash, a speaker and a front camera with a light sensor nearby. Under the screen are the touch buttons "back", "home" and "open applications" - chrome-plated and, accordingly, shiny in the light.
The central button is designed as a logo of the manufacturer.
The back side is covered with a removable cover of matt black in soft plastic. On it are the main camera with a two-LED flash, a large fingerprint scanner, an engraved BQ logo, the model name, the inscription “design developed in Spain” and the CE marking.
On the side faces of the device, the manufacturer located the SIM card / microSD compartment and the power and volume buttons.
Two microphones are located symmetrically on the upper and lower faces, in addition to them, there is a 3.5 mm audio jack at the top, and a USB Type-C type charging port and perforation of the main speaker at the bottom.
Small plastic inserts are completely invisible and do not spoil the overall appearance of the phone.
Aquaris X is slightly narrowed closer to the side edges, which allows it to lie comfortably in your hand and use one thumb freely, however, in general, the smartphone is slippery, sometimes it is very difficult to just take it off the table.
Aquaris X is equipped with a 5.2-inch display with IPS-matrix resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels. 424 dpi. Like the entire panel, the screen is covered with a layer of 2.5D glass with an oleophobic coating.
Display quality is top notch. Image sharpness, contrast level, wide viewing angles and color saturation give pleasure to use the device. The screen glare a bit with direct light, but the maximum brightness level is enough to negate this drawback. Adaptive brightness adjustment correctly sets the desired level of screen illumination.
Multi-touch technology - Recognize up to 10 touches simultaneously
The reviewed smartphone runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 single-chip eight-core processor, created using the 14 nm process technology, of the Cortex-A53 core with a frequency of up to 2.2 GHz.
Snapdragon 626 is an improved version of Snapdragon 625. The main difference is the frequency of 2.2 GHz versus 2.0 at 625. That is why all programs recognize it as a processor of the 625 series.
The speed of work can be estimated perfectly. The actions taken are quick, ranging from navigating the interface to opening applications.
Benchmarks showed the expected results. It is worth highlighting a good indicator of evaluating multiprocessor work.
As with the Snapdragon 625, a Qualcomm Adreno 506 graphics chip with a frequency of 650 MHz is installed here. Of course, there is no need to speak about high benchmark results and outstanding fps and graphics in general in games, but it is worth noting that the dynamics of the movement are quite smooth, there were no sharp changes in frames and hangs.
2.8 GB of RAM is enough for comfortable use of the smartphone, on average about half are used. The claimed 32 GB of internal memory, as usual, is 29.12 GB, of which 4.89 GB is the system, that is, 24.23 GB is available to the user, which should be enough for a couple of heavy games and a "standard" set of programs such as social network clients and a card, even a couple of albums of your favorite artists will be enough, and if there is not enough space, then the microSD card slot is always ready to help.
On the back of the smartphone is a Goodix FP fingerprint scanner. Its dimensions are larger than the average for phones on the market, which allows it to be attached as tightly as possible, and it works without fail. Fingerprinting is easy and quick, and when recognizing known “fingers”, he never doubted and instantly released the lock.
Aquaris X is running the Android 7.1.1 mobile operating system. The interface shell is original, from the programs pre-installed by the manufacturer - only a program for electronic registration of insurance against any type of damage and theft of “BQ Plus” for 29.90 euros per year. The list of countries on the territory of which this program operates does not include Russia.
Using the “key” included in the kit, it is easy to access a plate that allows you to place two nanoSIM SIM cards or one SIM card and a microSD memory card in it.
By default, 4G support is available for both SIM cards, but the data stream from the Internet can only come through one of them. You can regulate Internet traffic and, if necessary, reduce its consumption, in the "Mobile Data" settings section.
The Wi-Fi module is very strong here. Firstly, it immediately finds many networks, and secondly, it keeps the signal very far from the source, literally "to the last."
GPS in static immediately saw 25 satellites and began to use 15 of them. In practice, the navigation also did not raise any complaints - with the device it is convenient to search and track routes, both walking and driving.
With the recently appeared and actively developing method of contactless payment using a smartphone and in particular Android Pay, the presence of an NFC module is no longer just a pleasant addition, but a necessity. Fortunately, Aquaris X meets the requirements of modern trends and has a built-in NFC-module.
SoundA little disappointed with the lack of a headset-headset included. Many smartphone manufacturers today add in-ear headphones of good build and sound quality, here, frankly, they are not enough for "complete happiness."
The speaker is loud enough to hear the other person in a very noisy place. Bottom microphone copes with its main purpose.
There is only one main speaker here, it’s located at the bottom of the smartphone, but I must admit that its volume level and sound quality are not bad compared to most similar devices.
During the story about the amount of internal memory, we used it as an example of a music lover, and not by accident, because the AptX codec is specially built for them in Aquaris X, which, as you know, is guaranteed to provide wireless music transfer in an improved lossless format with minimal loss of quality.
Under the back cover is a non-removable lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 3100 mAh. Its charging takes place via the USB Type-C port, there is support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging function.
In fact, charging up to 50% takes about 45 minutes, from 50% to 100% - 1 hour.
The battery holds a good charge, lasts for the whole day, and with maximum passive use - up to one and a half days.Trashbox.ru battery test results:

And somehow I don’t even want to draw a conclusion on the results of our test of the battery from Treshbox v2.0, which took 6 hours 32 minutes to discharge the Aquaris X completely - the result of the “lower middle line”, stronger than 40% of the smartphones and tablets we tested .
Aquaris X is a great phone for photography.
As the sensor of the main camera, the selected Sony IMX298 Exmor RS, 16 megapixels., Type: CMOS. Pixel size: 1.132 microns, aperture: f / 2.0, lens: 6 Largan lenses. The camera is equipped with flash, autofocus, digital zoom, face recognition system, as well as shooting in RAW format.
In addition to standard modes: panorama, automatic shooting, there is a manual mode that allows you to adjust focus, white balance, photosensitivity, aperture and brightness. Not without HDR, significantly expanding the range of color reproduction and contrast, and the ZSL function allows you to shoot without delay after pressing the shutter button.
The quality of the shots is amazing, especially macro photography. The colors are deep and natural - this is achieved thanks to the Multi-Image Processing Technology implemented in the device.
The set of effects “Scenes” includes 9 presets for different situations:
- Night portrait
- By candlelight
Examples of photos taken in some of the above modes (the figure corresponds to the mode number in the list):
Front camera: sensor: Samsung S5K4H8YX, 8 megapixels. type: CMOS BSI (backslide illumination), pixel size: 0.98 μm, aperture: f / 2.0, equipped with an LED flash.
Of the additional modes, only the “Beautiful Face” is available, which makes the skin matte and light.
The main camera shoots video with a resolution of 4K UHD 30 fps, HD 720p and FullHD 1080p 60 fps. The smoothness of the picture provides the video stabilization system Vidhance.
The front camera also shoots video in 720p and 1080p up to 60 frames / s.
Summary and Conclusions
