Just note that in Russia, the retail sale of Huawei MediaPad M2 10.0 will come in two versions: silver with 16 GB of internal and 2 GB of RAM and gold with 3 GB of RAM and 64 GB of permanent memory. Together with the tablet, Huawei offers a charger (5V, 2A), a USB cable, a warranty card, a quick start guide, and a needle for removing the SIM card. Together with a more expensive, golden version of the device, the buyer gets a Wacom digital pen that recognizes 2048 degrees of depression.
A presale version of a silver-colored tablet fell on the test, but with 3 GB of RAM and 64 GB of permanent memory, without any configuration.
The tablet computer Huawei MediaPad M2 10.0 received a thin - 7.35 mm, metal body. Above the screen, to the left of the manufacturer’s logo, there is a front camera and a light sensor, and to the right of the inscription is an LED indicator. The fingerprint sensor’s built-in center in the center of the lower frame performs the function of the “home” key and recognizes several gestures, but there is no mechanics in its design.
The back panel of the device is non-removable, in its upper part there is a large plastic insert with a camera module and a flash in the center. Antennas are hidden nearby. The most interesting design feature of the Huawei MediaPad M2 10.0 is the four speakers, which are pairwise located on the upper and lower faces of the device. In addition to them, on the upper edge there are: a 3.5 mm jack and a microphone hole.
Huawei MediaPad M2 10.0 is equipped with an expansion slot for microSD, up to 128 gigabytes. It supports the tablet and work in cellular networks, for this on the left side there is also a Micro-SIM slot. The materials used in the design are of high quality, but, as we noticed, the frame creaks slightly in the test sample when pressed near the corners of the screen.
The MediaPad M2 10.0 display occupies a decent area of the front panel, the frames on the right and left are narrowed, so the monitor aspect ratio is 16:10. It uses a 10.1-inch IPS panel with a resolution of 1920 x 1200. The number of pixels per inch reaches 224. This is slightly less than the advertised threshold of 300 ppi, but, nevertheless, the individual pixels are indistinguishable.
Contrast, color reproduction, the absence of an air gap, viewing angles - all these parameters allow us to talk about the high quality of the matrix used. However, we have some comments on the backlight - the maximum brightness level is average, and the uniformity of the white field leaves much to be desired. At the corners there are small highlights, while closer to the center of the screen the backlight is paler. The MediaPad M2 10.0 screen has an oleophobic coating of medium efficiency, the touch layer recognizes up to 10 simultaneous clicks, the touchscreen sensitivity is high.
This tablet is based on the eight-core HiSilicon Kirin 930 chipset with the Mali-T628 MP4 graphics accelerator. The amount of RAM is 3GB.
Kirin 930 is Huawei’s development based on the ARM big.little architecture, which involves switching between four energy-efficient cores and four productive ones. Usually this is a bunch of Cortex-A53 and Cortex-A57, but in this processor four Cortex-A53e cores with an increased frequency up to 2 GHz are responsible for the performance. This approach, according to the developers, makes the processor more economical while maintaining a high level of performance.
Huawei MediaPad M2 10.0 is fast, both in benchmarks and when performing real tasks. We tested the tablet in Asphalt 8: Airborne, Modern Combat 5, World of Tanks Blitz, mobile versions of XCOM: Enemy Within, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, The Walking Dead, Mortal Kombat X, and did not encounter even minimal problems anywhere. But you need to consider that the future performance margin of the Mali-T628 is not the largest, and the lack of power will begin to be felt in games in a year or two.
The fingerprint scanner works quickly, and, importantly, regardless of what angle the finger is attached to it. You can record up to 5 prints in the tablet’s memory. We advise you to carefully follow the instructions that accompany the registration process, since the convenience of using the sensor largely depends on its correct passage.
The EMUI 3.1 shell, which runs Huawei MediaPad M2 10.0, is based on Android 5.1.1, but in many ways surpasses the “vanilla” version of the operating system. If its design as a whole is sustained in the style of iOS, although not without the original finds, then the user interface is more like MIUI
Many settings are sorted by more than three dozen menus. Here there is an advanced notification manager, support for themes, Swype-keyboard, voice activation function (in English only), a “black list” of subscribers, settings for the quick access panel. In addition to Google services, Huawei MediaPad M2 10.0 has a preinstalled application package from Yandex and a proprietary drawing application from Wacom - Bamboo Paper
. The drag-and-drop menu with the main navigation keys, designated in the settings as the “Control Button”, turned out to be very convenient.
Separately, it is worth noting the function "Double Window". It splits the screen in half, allowing you to simultaneously work with two applications. Unfortunately, not with everyone. So, not one of the text editors we tested worked in window mode.
Huawei MediaPad M2 10.0 works in LTE networks, and with it you can make calls. The location of the microphone is such that it is better to do in landscape orientation, but if you are really going to actively use this feature, it is better to get a headset.
The sound quality, thanks to four stereo speakers and technologies of the well-known manufacturer of audio equipment Harman / Kardon, compares MediaPad M2 10.0 from other mobile devices. The speakers play loud and clear, give out a wide range of mid frequencies and even capture bass. Thanks to them, watching movies on the MediaPad M2 10.0 is a pleasure. But listening to music is still better by connecting expensive headphones to the tablet. There is no exact data on this subject, but the sound seems to be that in the case, in addition to the speakers, a good audio DAC is hidden.
The tablet works with GPS, AGPS, GLONASS, BDS global positioning systems. Location tracked without problems.
The volume of the non-removable battery of the tablet is 6660 mAh. The EMUI 3.1 settings provide two power-saving modes. According to the results of the Trashbox test for autonomy, in balanced mode, you can count on 10 hours of internet surfing in the Chrome browser at 50% brightness.
In smart mode, when performing the same task, Huawei MediaPad M2 10.0 worked almost three hours longer.
Charging was carried out with an adapter for 5V, 2A, similar to the one supplied. Before this, the tablet was completely discharged, but when connected to the network, it showed a residual charge level of 4%. It took a little more than seven hours to fill the battery, in the absence of network connections and applications in the RAM.
The camera is not the most important component for a ten-inch tablet, and yet Huawei has allocated a 13 MP sensor for its new product. The resolution of the front photomodule reaches 5 megapixels.
The camera software supports HDR, panoramic and continuous shooting, smile recognition. In the maximum resolution - 4160x3120, photos have an aspect ratio of 4: 3, video is shot in 1080p resolution. At the same time, the overall quality of the main camera, in comparison with smartphones, seemed to us unsatisfactory, it will not be suitable for artistic shooting. And the point here is more in software processing than in the sensor itself.
A poor optimization of the software is also evidenced by the fact that during the shooting process we encountered a spontaneous reboot of the tablet. But the wide-angle front camera, despite the lack of autofocus, shoots well and is good for video chats.
The name Huawei MediaPad M2 10.0 speaks for itself - it is truly a multimedia-oriented device that has everything you need to make content consumption comfortable. Together with the tablet, the buyer will receive a fast and stable hardware platform, a large amount of internal memory with expandability, an outstanding stereo sound and a fingerprint sensor. However, MediaPad M2 10.0 is not perfect. I would like to see a larger margin of screen brightness, support for fast charging and the full implementation of multi-window.
Also upset is the lack of a model with an expanded memory capacity, but without a stylus in the kit. The cost of the tablet at the start of sales seems high, and it is unlikely that anyone, except artists, would like to overpay for this, not too popular accessory.Pros:
- A large amount of internal memory with expandability;
- Fast and functional fingerprint scanner.
- Uneven display backlight;
- Not the fastest graphics core;
- There is no support for fast charging.
May not like:
- Limited functionality of the Double Window mode.
Final rating: 7 out of 10.
