Today's review will be about a convenient little router designed for ardent travelers.
Now it seems that Wi-Fi in hotels and hostels is a ubiquitous phenomenon, but sometimes we will be disappointed in the absence of it, or a weak communication signal, or the slow speed of the Internet. For those for whom the Internet is an important or enjoyable component of travel and the Huawei WS331a router has been created. Small and lightweight, he can create his own wireless network or improve the coverage of the existing one.

Like the router itself, its packaging is tiny. The kit itself includes WS331a, a mini-USB cable, a charger and instructions with pictures.
An interesting approach to power: instead of the connector for the pin of the plug, you will find a standard micro-USB port. The adapter itself has a removable cable with USB at one end and micro-USB at the other. So, if you accidentally forget the power supply at home, you can connect the device from the laptop port or use charging from a smartphone, many of which just have a mini-USB connector (in the second case with mini-USB, you will also need an adapter).
Huawei WS331a fits easily even in a small palm: it is a small plastic box the size of a card reader.
Due to the miniature size, the Huawei WS331a does not have an antenna, but such routers are more likely for travelers who have come across not the most successful hotel, so it performs its main purpose - connecting to the Internet.
On one of the faces of the router is an Ethernet port, on the other is a Micro-USB power connector and a Reset button deeply recessed into the case.
The front part has one indicator of work - a nice dimly lit icon.
As in the routers we are familiar with, when the connection is established, the indicator lights up.
In addition, there is wonderful functionality in the form of a network open switch - an interesting functionality - open the switch - and you can easily connect to the network without any password from any Wi-Fi device. Close the switch and the network becomes secure. At the same time, your devices can now and in the future connect to the router without problems.
Huawei WS331a is only available in white.

Unfortunately, we did not dare to open the router in order to look at the chip, and considering that this is the first review of this type of device, I don’t think that would tell us much. The amount of RAM and internal memory is also unknown, but I do not think that this information will be useful to anyone, given the small chance of updating the firmware (simply due to the fact that everything works as it should).
There are two antennas in the device, both, of course, internal.
We compared our mini router with the most common router in Russia, which many providers rent for buying Internet - DIR-300. Due to the fact that Huawei WS331a has several antennas that provide good communication due to MIMO technology, the DIR-300 was defeated in all respects - transmission speed, ping to the gateway (-c 500) and coverage in the apartment. We have a rather large apartment and where the DIR-300 does not catch the network from Huawei WS331a was “clearly” visible and worked perfectly.
In general, the Huawei WS331a coped with its task. I do not think that someone may have serious complaints about the “pocket” router, given its main focus - travel and hotels.
You can easily access the router - either by entering the IP address in the browser, or by scanning the QR code on the case
The standard password is specified in the instructions and can be easily changed.
There are not many settings, but quite enough - I did not have any complaints about the interface and its speed.
You can control the router, as you see, directly from the phone.
The router combines compactness and low cost (950 rubles), and from the usual Huawei WS331a desktop router it is distinguished only by the absence of Ethernet ports for wired connection of client devices - otherwise it can be used as a full-fledged router suitable for putting it in a bag for the duration of the trip.
Final rating: 5 out of 10.
